Bruissements du Cercle 2

Co-directed by Gabriel Dharmoo and Solomiya Moroz, the concert series Bruissements du Cercle promotes contemporary, electroacoustic and improvised music at ESPACE CERCLE CARRÉ. The concerts bring together musicians from diverse backgrounds, means and aesthetics with a common goal to present new and stimulating music.

PROGRAM

BLOC #1 - CLASSICAL CONTEMPORARY MUSIC

Match - Mauricio Kagel (1931-2008) ensemble Allogène: Cellists Octavie Dostaler-Lalonde and Émilie Girard-Charest accompanied by percussionist Olivier Maranda pay tribute to avant-garde composer Mauricio Kagel known for pieces uniting theatre and music. Written in 1964, Match simulates a tennis match between two cellists with a percussionist as umpire.

BLOC #2 - AVANT-GARDE JAZZ

Improvised solo set by saxophonist Jason Sharp: Jason Sharp's unique musical style combines elements of jazz, classical contemporary music, electronic, rock, classical arab music and free improvisation. The musical flow of his improvisation follows the amplified rhythm of his heart, resulting in a duo with the sound of the saxophone.

BLOC #3 - FOCUS ON AUSTRIA

Sequitor I - Karlheinz Essl (b.1960) and Invocation III - Beat Furrer (b.1954): Solomiya Moroz has recently returned from a private study in music abroad in Austria, she will present two works by Austrian composers of international acclaim. Especially invited for the event is a Winnipeg-based soprano Sarah Kirsch who will join her for the performance of Beat Furrer's Invocation III.

BLOC #4 - IMPROVISED MUSIQUE ACTUELLE

Chorale bruitiste directed by Joane Hétu: Initiated by the "grande dame de musique actuelle" herself, Chorale Bruitiste brings together the most innovative, diverse and iconoclastic vocalists of Montreal's musical scene like Jean Derome, Danielle P Roger, Géraldine Eguiluz, Diane Labrosse, Elizabeth Lima, and Gabriel Dharmoo, co-director of the Bruissements du Cercle series.
