NOTES

SEQUENZA /// LUCIANO BERIO
Italian avant-garde composer Luciano Berio's Sequenzas are the epitome of technical and intellectual virtuosity in solo instrumental repertoire. Solomiya Moroz will interpret Sequenza I, the first of the series, composed for flute in 1958; Kathryn Schulmeister will perform the last, composed for cello in 2002, in its posthumous arrangement for doublebass, Sequenza XIVb (2004). Both musicians will then come together to present a semi-improvised duo by Ryan Krause, sense titol.

THREE MYTHS OF LIBERALISM /// ADAM BASANTA
Young electro-acoustic composer Adam Basanta will present his award winning 8-channel surround sound piece adapted for four channels, Three Myths of Liberalism. This piece questions liberalism as a mode of social structure revealing ambiguities and complexities of its function in daily modern life.

TOITURE /// CORINNE RENÉ & PHILIPPE LAUZIER
Percussionist Corinne René joins clarinetist/composer Philippe Lauzier to present his original creation, Toiture. The two musicians, both very active in Montreal's musique actuelle and improvisation music scene, present a captivating sonic environment for bass clarinet, percussion, motorized bells and zithers with electronics.

LE PROPHÈTE /// NOUVEAU ZODIAQUE
Inspired by the melismatic Quran maqam, Xarah Dion (voice and electronics) explores the theme of mystic love through the poetry of Khalil Gibran. She attempts to dislocate the linear notion of time by playing with asymmetries and stretching of synthetic objects as well as mutating the natural of the human voice. A psychedelic vignette.
